Christine Garratt
Musician . Teacher
A Performer who teaches, or …… …. a Teacher who performs?
Both performing and teaching have been lifelong passions for Chrissie.
She left school with a performance Diploma in Flute, and grade 8 in Piano and Music Theory. After gaining her BMus Honours degree from Edinburgh University she completed post-graduate study in Baroque Flute at the Royal College of Music.
Her professional playing in orchestral and chamber music on Baroque Flute, Concert Flute and Recorder began straight after College and she has for over three decades played with many of the UK’s top period-instrument ensembles, including English Baroque Soloists, Ex Cathedra, Florilegium, The Sixteen, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Academy of Ancient Music and others. She has performed on many recordings and appeared on radio and TV in the UK and abroad.
Chrissie currently enjoys her position as teacher of Flute, Recorder, Piano and Music Theory at New College School, Oxford and has held similar positions at City of London School, Abingdon School, and d’Overbroecks, Oxford.
She is regularly invited to examine students at the Royal College of Music.
Chrissie enjoys sharing her experience and passion for music with her students.
But is there more to life than music? Of course! Chrissie also loves nature, the countryside, astronomy, cycling adventures and reading.
