Chrissie’s story

I knew from an early age that music would be my life.

My first experience of music was at the age of 4, learning Descant Recorder with my mum at home. During my school years I also studied Flute, Piano, Clarinet, Guitar and French Horn. After school, with Flute as my principal instrument, I graduated with a music degree from Edinburgh University then completed postgraduate study at the Royal college of Music. Finally I was ready to face the world of professional music!

Wise words from my Flute teacher, Mr Wallace, when I passed my Grade 8 still resonate:

‍ ‍“Well done! Now you need to teach. You’ll learn as much from teaching as you do from flute lessons.”

And so, at the age of 16 I was fortunate to begin teaching Amber, the sister of a school friend, who went on to achieve Flute exam passes and is, I hope, still enjoying her playing. I have been teaching ever since.
